Community Builders Inc. commissioned a mural to give Hillside Crossing Apartments a welcoming, family-friendly identity in Schenectady’s Hamilton Hill neighborhood. I co-led the project with artist and educator Rae Frasier, whose childhood home once stood on the site, grounding the work in lived community history. Through public forums and neighborhood canvassing, we gathered local input and translated it into a cohesive digital design rooted in Hamilton Hill’s cultural fabric. Floral imagery represents the area’s diversity, with roses honoring the Black community, lotus flowers reflecting Guyanese heritage, and hibiscus symbolizing Puerto Rican culture. The mural now serves as an authentic landmark fostering pride, trust, and belonging.
