CONNECTING
Amplified Voices x Connect Center
Connect Center for Youth// Cohoes NY// September 2024
The Connect Center sought to transform its “Black Box” gaming room into a youth-driven safe space that cultivates creativity, innovation, and community while inspiring future career pathways through arts, music, and STEAM. With grant support from The Arts Center of the Capital Region, I co-led an Amplified Voices mural program engaging students ages 11–17 in the collaborative design of an immersive environment shaped by their own interests and identities. Drawing from nostalgic and new-age gaming characters, students explored representation, diversity in play styles, and moments when games made them feel seen or understood. These conversations were translated into a surreal mural that reflects gaming as a cross-generational visual language rooted in connection and belonging. Alongside the creative process, youth were introduced to wellness movements and grounding techniques designed to counter prolonged gaming isolation and physical inactivity. The completed space now supports daily programming, STEAM engagement, and community building, while reinforcing the Connect Center’s mission to uplift youth voice through creative opportunity.
