HEAVEN ON THE BLVD
C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios
Eerie Blvd. x Liberty St. - Schenectady, NY // July 2025
As part of a citywide initiative led by C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios to activate 23 electrical boxes through public art, I created an open-concept mural centered on joy, visibility, and community connection. The work celebrates Heaven, a seven-year-old, through a vibrant portrait rooted in Black girl joy, offering young people a powerful sense of representation in public space. Installed at one of the city’s busiest intersections and revealed as a surprise with her family’s collaboration, the mural brings moments of recognition and wonder into daily life. Painted in an electric hot pink palette, the piece invites commuters to slow down, smile, and reconnect, while sparking real-time engagement from passersby - demonstrating how authentic storytelling can transform the everyday commute.

"Eugene’s box was intentionally chosen to be in a high traffic area, as having him involved felt like a privilege because he is already well established in the Capital Region. I think my favorite part about this is he actually brought this girl over to see the box when it was finished. He did a fantastic job at capturing her joyful face and vibrant floral shirt, and the layers in that denim jacket – amazing! His attention to detail was incredible. Eugene stood out amongst other artists by showing a keen interest in knowing how this box would be protected moving forward."
