KIPP Tech Valley Middle School - Albany, NY // January 2024
KIPP Tech Valley Middle School sought to transform a central stairwell into a space that affirmed identity, celebrated excellence, and challenged students to consider, “What will be your legacy?” I created an immersive mural featuring larger-than-life portraits of iconic Black changemakers, positioned at eye level to reinforce that greatness is attainable. Layered symbolism, affirmations, and hidden details unfold as students move through the space, reinforcing themes of love, celebration, and self-belief. The stairwell now serves as a daily moment of reflection, motivation, and belonging.

“Literally everything, it’s all so realistic. I love Beyoncé, but I also think MLK and Obama were incredible. The kids loved the athletes too! I would take my kids that were frustrated and tell them “let’s go talk to Barack about that” or MLK” and I’d bring them to the stairwell to vent.”
