Fine Arts Wing, Schenectady High School - Schenectady, NY // June 2024
Schenectady High School aimed to complete a long-unfinished student mural, transforming the Fine Arts Wing into a space that celebrated the arts, supported emotional regulation, and inspired students. Honoring the original concept, I expanded the design to connect multiple music classrooms, centering the imagery around a lotus to symbolize resilience and reflect the school’s large Guyanese community. Students and teachers contributed throughout the process, with four students joining me in painting during school hours. The finished mural now brings calm, pride, and reflection to a highly trafficked hallway, especially as students prepare for graduation.

“This project has added immense value to our community by celebrating and representing a large part of our population; our Guyanese community. The inclusion of the national flower of Guyana in the mural has created a sense of pride and connection among many individuals. Students, in particular, have expressed their appreciation and admiration for this meaningful addition. The mural not only beautifies our space but also fosters a deeper sense of belonging and inclusivity within our organization.”
